The poetry book leaves China and moves on to Persia, with a poem from Omar Khayyam. This is Rubaiyat 51.
The Moving Finger writes; and having writ,Wow! It's not hard to see why this poem is so memorable. What a bleak and powerful message. Time keeps on rolling and nothing we can do will roll it back.
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all they Tears wash out a Word of it.
I've heard the first line many times but never knew the rest of it. I'll have to memorize this. I'm sure my kids will find it comforting when they're teenagers!
